Yantras — The Geometry of Consciousness
How to use yantras in meditation and sacred space. Creating, charging and working with geometric tools of consciousness.
What Is a Yantra?
A yantra is a geometric diagram used as a focal object in meditation — literally a machine or tool for the mind. Unlike icons (murtis), which depict the divine in human or animal form, yantras express the divine as pure pattern, vibration, and geometry. The geometry embodies the energy of a specific deity or cosmic principle.
Working with Yantras
Place the yantra at eye level, 60-90 cm from your face. Begin with Trataka (steady gazing without blinking) for 5-10 minutes. Then close eyes and hold the image internally. Work with a single yantra for at least 40 days before changing — depth comes through sustained relationship with one form.
Creating Your Own Yantra
Traditionally, yantras are drawn on copper, gold, or silk paper with specific inks and ceremonial intention. The act of drawing the yantra is itself a meditation. Precise geometric construction is required — use compass and ruler, following the traditional proportions.
